The BFL is a portable gaming computer made out of wood and desktop computer parts. The only component that is modified is the 24" monitor, all other parts can be easily swapped out or upgraded. The BFL came to be out of the requirements of being powerful, affordable, portable, and upgradable. Build cost was around $1600, and over 100 hours.
Closed up and ready to go. I specifically made sure it was not obviously a computer while in carry mode.
The back/bottom of the case. The only sign it's a computer while closed. The video card vent is the hole to the upper right of the motherboard IO plate. The PSU is lower right, and the video card power cable plug is lower middle.
The first thing I did was disassemble the monitor. I needed to install an 18" flatflex cable so I could move its controller board and power supply into the bottom of the case. If you notice I have soldered the cable directly to the card it's because I broke the clip off.
Its first LAN party, still a work in progress. One of the monitor's backlight power cables wasn't connected completely which is why it's dim in the lower left. You can see the video card lays flat over the motherboard using a 6" riser cable. The polycarbonate lid supports were only temporary because I hadn't installed the gas spring yet.
